Practical Tech & AI Toolkit.
Practical advice for ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Grok, Gemini and Perplexity, alongside Microsoft and Windows references. Choose a task, understand the limits and open the official source.
A model is not the whole tool.
A model generates responses. The product around it provides the interface, tools, account settings and data controls. A connector or extension adds another publisher, permission scope and possible data destination. A higher model number does not establish fit for your task.
Try this: choose one public or approved task, define the output, compare the result against a source and record what needed correction. Check current plan limits and price before adopting the workflow. This is a practical starting point, not a ranking or a claim that these products behave alike.

Grok · Assistant and connector guidance
Grok: compare a public-topic answer
Try one public question, then compare the answer with its underlying sources before connecting a private account.
Consumer, X and business offerings have different contexts. Connected services can make changes; plan access and permissions must be checked.

Google · Connected Apps guide
Gemini: map a cross-app task
List the source and the action your workflow needs before authorizing an app. Searching information does not require blanket permission to edit or send.
Personal and work accounts differ. Connected capabilities can manage content or send messages; confirm eligibility and data practices.

Perplexity · Research product guide
Perplexity: build a research source trail
Ask one bounded public question. Open cited primary pages and keep a claim, source and uncertainty record.
A citation does not make a statement correct. Pro Search limits and available models depend on plan; uploads need their own data review.

Find which process has a file open
Use File Locksmith to identify an accessible process using a file, starting with an existing approved PowerToys installation and your current rights.
Identification only here, not End task, process killing or administrator restart. Those actions can lose work. An empty result does not prove nothing has the file open; file and process names may reveal private context.
